SPECTINO

**Composition (per 1 ml):** – Spectinomycin Hydrochloride …………………………..

50 mg **Description:** Spectinomycin is an aminocyclitol-type antimicrobial agent produced by two species of fungi, *Streptomyces flavopersicus* and *Streptomyces spectabilis*.

Similar to aminoglycosides, it works by binding to the 30s ribosomal subunits of bacteria.

Laboratory tests have shown that spectinomycin is effective against a range of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, though its primary field spectrum is for Gram-negative bacteria.

Anaerobic organisms are generally resistant.

Spectinomycin is more bacteriostatic than bactericidal, with its mechanism of action being inhibition of protein synthesis.

It is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.

In the bloodstream, its protein binding is low, at less than 10%.

It is almost entirely excreted via renal glomerular filtration, with 75% or more cleared within 4 hours.

**Indications for Use:** For the treatment and control of enteritis caused by strains of *E.

coli* sensitive to spectinomycin, and for the prevention of bacterial diseases in newborns (such as watery mouth disease) in lambs and kids at risk of colostrum deprivation.

**Contraindications:** Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient.

Do not use in piglets older than 4 weeks or weighing more than 7 kg.

Use with caution in animals with kidney damage.

**Dosage and Administration:** For oral administration: – **Lambs and Kids (up to 5-6 kg):** – **Prevention:** 3 pumps in a single dose for newborn animals as soon as possible after birth.

– **Treatment:** 2 pumps twice daily for 3 to 5 days.

– 1 ml of solution contains 50 mg of spectinomycin.

**Withdrawal Period:** Animals must not be slaughtered for human consumption during the treatment period.

– **Lambs and Kids:** 10 days after the last treatment.

**Storage:** Store in the original, closed container below 25°C.
