OXY 250

**Composition (per gram):** – Oxytetracycline Hydrochloride …………………..

250 mg **Pharmacological Properties:** Oxytetracycline belongs to the tetracycline group and acts as a growth inhibitor against various Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria such as *Bordetella*, *Bacillus*, *Corynebacterium*, *Pasteurella*, *Campylobacter*, *Staphylococcus*, *Haemophilus*, *Escherichia coli*, *Salmonella*, and *Streptococcus spp.*, as well as *Mycoplasma*, *Rickettsia*, and *Chlamydia*.

The mechanism of action of oxytetracycline is based on inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis.

Oxytetracycline is primarily excreted in urine, with lesser amounts in bile and in the milk of lactating animals.

**Indications:** For calves, sheep, and chickens (broilers and layers): Treatment and group-level prevention of septicemia, respiratory, and gastrointestinal infections caused by oxytetracycline-sensitive bacteria when the disease is confirmed in the group.

**Contraindications:** Not to be used in cases of hypersensitivity to oxytetracycline or any other tetracycline.

Not for use in known oxytetracycline-resistant cases.

**Interactions with Other Drugs:** Divalent or trivalent cations (such as magnesium, iron, aluminum, and calcium) can interact with tetracyclines.

Tetracyclines should not be administered with antacids, aluminum-containing gels, or vitamin and mineral supplements, as these can form insoluble compounds, reducing antibiotic absorption.

**Adverse Reactions:** Discoloration of teeth in young animals, allergic reactions, gastrointestinal disturbances, and, less commonly, hypersensitivity and photosensitivity reactions.

**For Veterinary Use Only.** **Dosage and Administration:** Administer orally.

The amount of medicated water depends on the clinical and physiological state of the animals.

To achieve the correct dosage, the concentration of oxytetracycline should be adjusted based on the anticipated daily water consumption.

Recommended dosages are as follows: – **Calves and Sheep:** The recommended dose is 2 grams of oxytetracycline per 25-50 kg of body weight twice daily for 3-5 days.

– **Poultry:** The recommended dose is 20 mg of oxytetracycline per kg of body weight daily for 3-5 consecutive days.

**Special Precautions for Use:** This powder should be dissolved in water before use.

The use of the product should be based on a sensitivity test of bacteria isolated from the animal.

Widespread resistance to oxytetracycline has been identified in swine and poultry isolates of *Escherichia coli*, *Salmonella spp.*, *Campylobacter spp.*, and *Enterococcus spp.* Sick animals may have a reduced appetite and altered drinking patterns, and if necessary, they should be treated via injection.

**Withdrawal Period:** – **Meat:** – Calves and Sheep: 8 days.

– Poultry: 6 days.

– **Eggs:** Not for use in laying hens producing eggs for human consumption.

**Storage:** Store in the original packaging below 25°C.
