OXY 200
**OXY 200: Water-Soluble Antibiotic Powder** **Composition:** Each gram contains 200 mg of Oxytetracycline Hydrochloride.
**Pharmacological Properties:** Oxytetracycline belongs to the tetracycline group and acts as a bacteriostatic agent against various species, including: – *Bordetella* – *Bacillus* – *Corynebacterium* – *Pasteurella* – *Campylobacter* – *Staphylococcus* – *Haemophilus* – *E.
coli* – *Salmonella* – *Streptococcus* It also shows effectiveness against *Mycoplasma*, *Rickettsia*, and *Chlamydia*.
Its effect is based on inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis.
Oxytetracycline is primarily excreted in urine.
**Indications for Use:** OXY 200 is used for: – **Calves, Sheep, and Chickens (broilers and layers):** Treatment and prevention of septicemia, respiratory, and gastrointestinal infections caused by oxytetracycline-sensitive bacteria.
**Contraindications:** – Hypersensitivity to oxytetracycline or any other tetracycline.
– Known resistance to oxytetracycline.
**Drug Interactions:** Avoid administering oxytetracycline with: – Antacids – Aluminum-containing gels – Vitamin or mineral preparations **Adverse Reactions:** – Tooth discoloration in young animals – Allergic reactions – Gastrointestinal disturbances – Photosensitivity reactions (less common) **Dosage and Administration:** – **Calves and Sheep:** 2 grams of oxytetracycline (10 grams of OXY 200) per 25-50 kg of body weight, twice daily for 3-5 days.
– **Poultry:** 20 mg of oxytetracycline (100 mg of OXY 200) per kg of body weight daily for 3-5 consecutive days.
**Special Precautions for Use:** – Dissolve the powder in water before use.
– A sensitivity test should be conducted on bacteria isolated from the animal.
**Withdrawal Period:** – **For Meat:** – Calves and Sheep: 8 days – Poultry: 6 days – **For Eggs:** Not to be used in laying hens producing eggs for human consumption.
**Storage:** Store in the original container below 25°C.
