AMPRO 25% POWDER – For Oral Administration
Composition (per gram):
Amprolium hydrochloride: 250 mg
Indications:
Amprolium is a coccidiostat (antiprotozoal) used for the prevention and treatment of coccidiosis in:
- Calves
- Goats
- Sheep
- Chickens (broilers and breeders)
- Other fowl, such as turkeys
Target Parasites:
Effective against Eimeria spp., especially Eimeria tenella and Eimeria necatrix.
Amprolium works by competitively inhibiting the uptake of thiamine (Vitamin B1) in protozoa, disrupting their lifecycle.
Contraindications:
- Do not use for laying hens producing eggs for human consumption.
- Avoid administering to animals with impaired liver or kidney function.
- Do not use in turkeys under 8-10 weeks of age.
Side Effects:
- Overdose may suppress weight gain in broilers and cause polyneuritis.
- Long-term use in high doses can cause thiamine (Vitamin B1) deficiency.
- Treatment for overdose: Administer thiamine orally or parenterally.
Dosage and Administration:
- Poultry & Turkeys:
- 20 mg of Amprolium per kg of body weight daily for 5-7 consecutive days.
- Medicated water should be prepared considering body weight and daily water consumption.
- Ensure fresh medicated water every 24 hours.
Withdrawal Period:
- Meat: 3 days for poultry and turkeys.
- Eggs: 2 days for poultry and turkeys.
