DESCRIPTION AND INDICATIONS:
Enrofloxacin belongs to the group of quinolones and acts as bactericidal against mainly Gram negative bacteria like:
Campylobacter, E. coli, Haemophilus, Mycoplasma, Pasteurella and Salmonella spp.
Enrofloxacin is a synthetic, broad spectrum antimicrobial, bactericidal in action and effective against a wide range of gram positive and gram negative bacteria as well as mycoplasmas.
It is indicated for use in calves, cattle, sheep and goats, for diseases of the respiratory and alimentary tract, of bacterial or mycoplasmal origin, e.g. pasteurellosis, coli-bacillosis, coli-septicaemia mycoplasmosis, and salmonellosis, where clinical experience, supported where possible by sensitivity testing of the causal organism, indicates enrofloxacin as the drug of choice.
Fluoroquinolone, used to treat and control chronic respiratory diseases, septic colibacillosis, malignant rhinitis, Pasteurella, salmonellosis, Staphylococcosis, endemic epidemic pneumonia, cattle colibacillosis and mastitis.
CONTRAINDICATION:
Hypersensitivity to enrofloxacin.
Administration to animals with a seriously impaired hepatic and/or renal function.
Concurrent administration of tetracyclines, chloramphenicol, macrolides and lincosamides.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
(For intravenous (IV) or subcutaneous (SC) administration):
Calves, cattle, sheep and goats:
1 ml per 20 – 40 kg body weight for 3 – 5 days, or as advised by a veterinary surgeon.
SIDE EFFECTS:
Administration to young animals during growth can cause cartilage lesions in joints.
Hypersensitivity reactions may occur.
WITHDRAWAL PERIOD:
Calves, cattle, sheep and goats:
5 days (IV) / 12 days (SC) (meat and offal).
3 days (IV) / 4 days (SC) (milk).
Keep it in a dry, dark place below 25°C.
